I use elements of construction and it's counterpoint; erosion of form, in my work. What interests me is the tensions created when these two seemingly-opposing approaches occupy the same common ground in the image. I am intensely absorbed in the process of making paintings and the extent to which i employ or harness accident figures highly in the resulting pictures. Another enduring theme in my work is the differing levels of ambiguity and varying degrees of readability in my images. There is often an intentional nod to the spirit of the Romantic painters in the atmosphere i try to evoke. Ultimately though, my work is about the subtle boundary pull between figurative representation and what we think of as abstraction.
