BA (Hons) Fine Art: Painting
My work is primarily concerned with the relationship between the viewer and the painting. I am interested in the extent to which this can be manipulated, and the position in which a painting exists between the intentions of the painter, and the perceptions of the viewer. Installation has become an essential part of my work, as I attempt to highlight the physical relationship between the viewer and the work, alongside feelings about duration, space and the gestural mark. I want to make work which is about paint, about the act of painting, and the act of looking at a painting. I am drawn towards the integrity of modernism- in particular concerns about the abstract, the authentic and the necessary, and am interested to find whether there is a place for a new notion of 'faith' within contemporary abstract painting.
