MA Fashion Artefact

angelamariaplatt.blogspot.com Before studying on the MA Artefact course i completed a BA (Hons) at Manchester Metropolitan University. On the masters I won the Unilever award for design innovation as well as sponcorship from the Girdlers. Interested in combining creative fields; I work with experimental photographers, artists and performers to create unique fashion artefacts in the form of fashion objects and film. I have produced a film and series of photographs which expose the narrative that contextualizes my garments, revealing the depth or political vision behind the pieces. I believe my provocative films can work as tools to create an affiliation connecting the consumer and the garment. I consider that by involving the onlooker in the creation of the piece it adds interest and value; it intensifies desire and appeal in a meaningful way. This project is about women whose actions set them apart from the traditional rules of acceptable female behavior. It also explores shame and secrecy. I documented bleeding onto fabric in a process which resembled a woman on her period. I was interested by how the fabric was stained and how the model felt about being photographed in a piece of clothing which she had bled onto. The concept resembled a nightmare and confronted total embarrassment. I became very interested in the meaning of blood, the connotations and peoples reactions. I was considering the idea of blood being a precious commodity as well as the associations of bleeding being a symbol of pain, loss and emotion.
