MA Fashion Design and Technology
My recently completed MA at the London College of Fashion was in menswear having previously studied womenswear for my BA degree. I therefore consider myself as a competent all-round designer with strong creative skills, experience and knowledge in both areas. My background experience has involved working for a year as a tailors apprentice on Savile Row shortly before embarking on my menswear MA. This undoubtedly influenced my collection with the tailoring knowledge I had learnt and put into practise. I intended to push the boundaries of tailoring and menswear within my collection by playing with layering, asymmetrical jackets and waistcoats. Also by juxtaposing the different fabrics and by mixing high tech fabrics with traditional British silks such as jerseys and taffetas, I was able to push the conventionality of menswear by questioning the colour, texture, pattern and shape with a radical approach. My MA collection has a metro sexual romance inspired theme with influences of draping and corsetry pattern cutting taking inspiration from my womenswear designs and places the modern with the old sitting them comfortably alongside each other. I was born in Westminster and have spent the majority of my life in London. It is this quintessentially individualistic British and historical background that subtly inspires and influences my work as a designer. I am currently looking for a menswear/womenswear design role in London or in any of the main key design capitals in Europe within a high-end label.
