BA (Hons) Acting
My work is based on the grey area between the real and unreal. Through installation, sculpture and video I explore different narratives and settings that use this real versus unreal concept to evoke feelings of humour, upset, hatred and hope. I have learned the art of taxidermy under master taxidermist Mike Gadd, and use taxidermy as my main means of expression. A taxidermied animal works as the perfect medium between the real and the unreal. A taxidermied "badger" has the form and shape of a living one, yet nothing from the living badger is shown except it's skin (who's chemical composition is altered in the tanning process) and possibly it's teeth/skull. However, the emotional response towards this object is still very powerful. My work utilizes this power to question trends in thought within today's society, and provoke further discussion on these topics.
